The Forestry Commission of Ghana was presented with a Toyota Hilux Pickup vehicle by Fasoh Multi Services Limited, a mining company in the Upper Wassaw Forest Reserve which is under the Bibiani Forest District.

The mining company which has acquired all the necessary documents and permits to undertake mining activities in the Wassaw Forest Reserve made a humble call to the Commission to assist them in protecting their mining site by providing them with competent and trained forest guards. It was in view of this that twelve skilled and trained forest guards were released to assist the mining company in monitoring and protecting their mining site.

To make the work of these selected forest guards easy, the mining company presented the Commission with the pickup vehicle and other accessories like tents, camp bed, mosquito nets, raincoats, camp tables, wellington boots, water bottles and camp chairs.

Describing the move as an important milestone in mining in the forest reserves, the Chief Executive of Forestry Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, said the Commission is ready to assist any company which has valid permits and documentations from the Minerals Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Forestry Commission to undertake exploration in some areas of the Forest Reserves.

He also expressed his appreciation to the company for supporting the Commission to undertake its monitoring and enforcement activities to avoid forest destruction.
