FORESTRY COMMISSION AND TC’S ENERGY LTD, U.S.A INC SIGNS MOU

The Forestry Commission (FC), Ghana and TC’S Energy Limited with its partners Sinohydro Corporation, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Boardroom of Forestry Commission.

The MOU was signed to establish a collaborative relationship between TC’s Energy Ltd. USA Inc and Forestry Commission, Ghana, for the purposes of promoting, operating and source funding for the implementation of the Ghana Green City Project which will be established in the Digya and Kogyae National Parks in Ghana.

The Chief Executive, Mr. John Allotey, representing Forestry Commission said the Commission was happy to have partnered with TC’s Energy Ltd because this collaboration will see the birthing of the Ghana Green City Project (Green City), in the Digya National Park, which is located in the Bono East Region. He said the Park was chosen for the Project for varied reasons, some of which included the Park’s large area of 3,478km2, wide attractive landforms and its high presence of mammal species – elephants, manatees and six primate species and over 200 bird species. It is also close to crossroads of a number of tourist routes in eastern and central Ghana. Mr. Allotey concluded by saying the establishment of the Green City will come with numerous benefits as it will open up the Region, create jobs which will rake in revenue for the government in the form of taxes and the development of the local economy.

Representing TC’s Energy Ltd, U.S.A Inc was the Chief Executive, Mr. Anthony Opoku. He expressed his gratitude for being part of the Green City initiative and said that, TC’s Energy and its partner Sinohydro has the capacity and the technical ‘know-how’ and financial support to be able to execute the Green City project. He said the aim of the project is to create jobs and develop the forest and the partnership between Forestry Commission and TC’s Energy USA will make the Forestry Commission self - sustainable.
